Thoroughly Modern Millie
September 7-22, 2007
Book by: Richard Morris, Dick Scanlon
Music by: Dick Scanlan and Jeanine Tesori
Directed by: Cindy Flach
Sponsored by: Ken and Cheryl Wheat
Based on the 1967 movie starring Julie Andrews, Thoroughly
Modern Millie took Broadway by storm in 2002. Set in New
York City in 1922, it’s the story of young Millie
Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a
new life. Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men
and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to
hate, the show features 15 songs, splashy dance numbers,
colorful costumes, zany comedy and stylized sets representing
1920s New York. It ran for 903 performances and won six
Tony Awards including Best Musical.
I Am My Own Wife
October 19-21, 25-27, 2007
Written by: Doug Wright
Directed by: Ellen Douglas Schlaefer
Sponsored by: SC Equality Coalition, Robert Barnes and Jerry
Kelly, Something Special Flowers and Gifts
Based on a true story and inspired by interviews conducted
by the playwright over several years, I Am My Own Wife tells
the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a celebrated
German transvestite and antiques dealer who managed to survive
both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist
regime. This is a one-man play, with Paul Kaufman playing
more than 40 characters, many in rapid-fire succession. I Am
My Own Wife won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2004 Tony
Awards for Best Play and Best Actor.
It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues
January 11-26, 2008
By: Charles Bevel, Lita Githers, Randal Myler, Ron Taylor and Dan Wheetman
Based on an idea by: Ron Taylor
Directed by: Cindy Flach
Sponsored by: The Brannon Law Firm
This revue of the blues and blues-infused songs traces
the evolution of the blues from Africa to Mississippi to
Memphis to Chicago. Its 50 musical numbers range from African
chants and spirituals to Delta and Chicago blues. Besides
a cornucopia of splendidly interpreted songs, the show is “a
potent blend of visual eloquence and historical sweep that
occasionally works mischief on the funny bone and always
raises the spirits...a sure cure for the blues!”
(New York Times) Nominated for four 1999 Tony Awards, including
Best Musical.
Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
March 7-22, 2008
Book by: Hugh Wheeler
Music and Lyrics by: Stephen Sondheim
Directed by: Ellen Douglas Schlaefer
Sponsored by: Don
Alcorn
In this musical masterpiece of murder and cannibalism, Sweeney Todd is the unjustly exiled barber who returns to
19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous
judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. Sophisticated,
macabre, visceral and uncompromising, Sweeney Todd also
has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with howlingly
funny moments of dark humor. The original 1979 production
won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The 2006 revival
won two Tonys. A Tim Burton movie starring Johnny Depp opens in December.

Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie and what starts as
a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and one last
class on the meaning of life.
The Secret Garden
July 13-28, 2007
Book and Lyrics by: Marsha Norman
Music by: Lucy Simon
Novel by: Frances Hodgson Burnett
Directed by: Dedra Daniels Mount
Sponsored by: Ken and Cheryl Wheat
The enchanting classic of children’s literature is
now a brilliant musical by a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright.
Orphaned in India, an 11-year-old girl returns to Yorkshire,
England, to live with a reclusive uncle and his invalid son.
A magic, locked garden, flashbacks, dream sequences, a strolling
chorus of ghosts, and some of the most beautiful music ever
written for Broadway dramatize The Secret Garden’s
compelling tale of regeneration. Bring the kids and grandkids
to this Tony Award-winning treasure!
Rock Nativity
December 6-9, 2007
Book and Lyrics by: David Wood
Music by: Jackie Trent & Tony Hatch
Directed by: Dedra Daniels Mount
Sponsored by: BlueCross BlueShield of SC
A combination of contemporary music, carols, recitatives,
dialogue and direct speech to the audience, this family
musical is a modern equivalent of the medieval mystery play
– simple yet not naïve, humorous yet not disrespectful,
devotional yet not overtly pious. From the Annunciation
of the Birth to the Flight into Egypt, Rock Nativity is
a musical delight for the entire family.

humans as canines! Family-friendly, but no pups under the
age of 10. WOOF! WOOF!
